Roses are amazing flowers loved by many. Planting them in your garden or yard may seem like a difficult task at first glance, but all it really takes is following a few simple steps as described below. infographic- plant roses tips

Step 1: Pick the Right Spot

As the popular proverb says, “A good beginning is half the battle.”, so is choosing the right spot for planting your roses if you want them to grow into flourishing and amazing bushes. The most crucial factor is sunlight. Pick a spot that gets at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day and isn’t shaded by too many surrounding plants.

Step 2: Dig a Large Enough Hole

Soil is another important factor that determines whether your bushes will grow well or not. Each rose bush you plant requires a good soil preparation. You can do that by digging out an 18” x 18” hole, in depth and width, for each rose bush and adding compost and fertilizer to the soil you dug out of the hole. This fertile mix will be the nutritious base for your roses throughout their growing cycle.

Step 3: Plant Your Roses

Make sure you plant your roses 2 inches deep in the ground. Add 1 inch if you live in a colder region. Press the soil around the stems to make sure it is firm.

Step 4: Water

Water the planting area carefully, making sure that the soil gets a good soaking, and add mulch around the stems to protect the roses.

Step 5: Maintain Regularly

As flowers require a lot of attention and a gentle hand, roses will need ongoing maintenance such as regular watering, pruning, fertilizing and protecting the bushes from cold weather and disease. These chores are hard to avoid, but there is a lot of advice out there on how you can reduce their laboriousness. One of them, for example, is to plant your roses in a self-watering PVC flower box instead of planting them directly in the ground. This approach can reduce the required frequency of watering by three times and even more!
