The kitchen is one of the main rooms in your home that can affect the way you feel about where you live, and can even have a big impact on how much your home is worth if you ever wish to sell it.

So it makes sense to make sure your kitchen is in great condition and is both functional and stylish, yet a kitchen remodel is often a project that many homeowners put off. This is partially due to the associated cost, and also the upheaval of being without a kitchen for a little while during the period that the work is done.

But it really is worth your while, particularly in certain situations. Let’s run through three signs that it’s time to bite the bullet and have your kitchen replaced!

It looks dated or shabby

One of the main reasons people decide to redo their kitchens is that the room simply doesn’t look good. Whether that is because you’ve been living in the house for a lot of years but not updated it in a long time, or you’ve just moved into a new home that the previous owner hadn’t touched, or simply changing trends, these things can influence how the room looks and feels.

It should be a room that you enjoy spending time in, so having it to your taste is important! Perhaps you have moved in and decided to put up with the existing kitchen, but we spoke to Aston Designs in Milton Keynes who said “think about it this way – if you ever decide to sell you may have to replace the kitchen in order to sell the house easily, so why live with it now and only update the space for somebody else’s benefit?”

It is no longer functional

Another reason that cannot be easily ignored is that your kitchen isn’t functional. Perhaps you have a growing family, or you’ve moved your partner in and want space to cook together.

Redesigning the space to make sure you can do everything that you want to such as dining or entertaining guests will make your life a lot easier.

Another reason to remodel is if you don’t have enough storage space, as this can really make or break the functionality of the room.

When redesigning the space, consider things like whether you want appliances to be hidden away, and plan your storage accordingly.

Even in a small space, you can maximise storage by installing cabinets right up against the ceiling to avoid wasting space or implementing pull out storage in awkward corners. Check out these clever storage ideas on Forbes if you need inspiration!

Water damage

One serious thing that you cannot afford to ignore in a kitchen is water damage. Even a small leak can have disastrous consequences!

Aside from just not looking good anymore, water damage can cause your kitchen to develop an odour or grow mould, which can affect your health especially if you suffer from asthma.

We hope that this has given you some inspiration to bite the bullet and finally tackle your kitchen remodelling project.
