This Cream Kitchen Went Dark Blue Without Replacing a Single Cabinet: The Result Looks Custom-Built

Cream cabinets, black countertops, white walls, and warm wood floors gave this kitchen a classic neutral palette. The room had plenty of storage, a large cooking zone, a farmhouse sink under the windows, and cabinetry that wrapped around the space.

Then We Spray uPVC covered the cream cabinetry in Farrow & Ball’s Stiffkey Blue with a satin finish. The deep blue reaches beyond the doors and drawers, covering the peninsula, end panels, wine storage, and the detailed surround framing the range.

Against the existing black counters and white surfaces, the new color makes the kitchen look like a different room. There was no need for the visual impact to come from a new layout or a full set of cabinets. In this case, color does most of the work.

Shaker fronts gave the original cabinetry a traditional look, with wood knobs adding warmth against the pale finish. Black countertops ran above them, creating one of the strongest contrasts in the room.

The palette continued around the range and toward the sink, so cream became the dominant color from almost every viewpoint.

Dark counters already created a strong horizontal line through the kitchen. Once the cabinets changed from cream to blue, that existing surface became part of a much darker palette.

White walls, ceiling, tile, and appliances keep enough contrast around it, preventing the blue and black combination from swallowing the room.

Deep blue changes how the same Shaker fronts read. Details that felt soft against cream become sharper, with recessed panels and rails standing out under the satin finish.

Small brass-toned knobs also gain more contrast against the blue, adding warm points across the dark cabinetry.

Stiffkey Blue wraps around the large peninsula and continues across the cabinetry behind it. From this angle, the scale of the color change becomes clear.

Instead of introducing a contrasting island color, the makeover uses blue across both sections. Black countertops form another continuous element between them.

Blue covers the tall surround framing the range, including its decorative brackets and trim. Those details now stand out against the white subway tile inside the recess.

The combination gives the cooking zone a built-in furniture look, with the white range breaking up the dark frame at floor level.

Cabinets turn deep blue beneath the large windows, but the farmhouse sink, wall paneling, frames, and upper walls remain white.

That contrast matters in a kitchen with this much dark cabinetry. Sunlight also brings out more of the blue in Stiffkey Blue, while shaded sections appear closer to navy.

A large dresser or hutch across the dining area carries the same blue into another part of the room. Its open shelves, paneled back, drawers, and base create a second block of color beyond the kitchen.

The repeated blue makes the two areas feel connected without adding another finish or accent color.

Around the range, decorative brackets, molding, recessed cabinet fronts, and narrow trim pieces become easier to notice once covered in blue.

White subway tile provides a clean background for those details, while the black cooktop connects with the countertops on either side.

A pair of woven baskets sits inside open storage on the peninsula, surrounded by the same blue finish as the cabinet fronts.

Their dark woven texture breaks up the painted surface without introducing another major color. It is a small detail, but it shows how the deeper finish changes more than the cabinet doors alone.

Would you take Stiffkey Blue across the whole kitchen like this, or use it on just the lower cabinets?
