Nostalgic and Vintage Christmas Decorating

Welcome to my home for the Holiday Housewalk. Last year I went with kind of Victorian/Little Women/1930’s vibes and this year I decided to go with more nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating. This year I wanted to have some fun color and fun elements that felt more whimsical.  I included things like a paper chain, retro ceramic Christmas houses and even some decor saved from my own childhood. It really brought me some happiness this year to see all of the fun things that brought back such warm memories. Click here to go back to the main housewalk page to see all of the homes.

Tour Of The Living Room

Let’s start off my Christmas home tour in the living room. This year I added fun things to my decor like the paper chain on my mantel. It was so easy to make and I love how the pop of color looks. You can see how to make one for yourself here.

A decorated fireplace mantel with paper garland, small houses, wooden trees, and candles sets a nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating tone. Nearby, a Christmas tree and nativity scene add to the charming holiday décor.

On the top of the mantel I’ve added my retro ceramic painted Christmas houses. I bought these a few years ago at a thrift store and have been waiting to pull these out. This year seemed like the perfect opportunity!  They are all really fun colors and seem kind if Mid-century. I placed them around some vintage ceramic pine trees that I’ve picked up here and there. If you love vintage-inspired Christmas original art and handmade goods, make sure to check out this years collection: Christmas Memories.

Small ceramic houses with snow-covered roofs evoke nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating, displayed on a wooden mantle flanked by faux greenery and a book, with a decorative mirror in the background.
Mini ceramic houses labeled "Toy Shop" and "Bakery" evoke nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating, displayed on a mantel with greenery, a small Christmas tree, and a decorative mirror in the background.

On the Christmas tree, which is my favorite so far from Balsam Hill (and my kid’s hate because it’s “too skinny”), I added the collection of Shiny Brite ornaments I inherited from my aunt. On the end of each branch is a tied velvet bow. I love the color and the simplicity.

A decorated Christmas tree with ribbons and ornaments stands next to a fireplace adorned with candles, garland, and holiday figurines in a cozy living room.

On the couch I have a pillow I just picked up from World Market. I love embroidery and this one was so pretty with the green fabric and red Peace on Earth lettering. It’s the sweetest little accent to my many, many couch cushions. lol.

A round pillow with “Peace on Earth” and a wreath design sits on a tan sofa, adding a touch of nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating to a warmly decorated living room filled with holiday cheer.

On the coffee table a collection of wooden trees. I love the organic element of the wood. Some of them I bought a few years ago from Anthropologie. They had candles in them that are long gone, but I really love the shape and size of them and look so good clustered together.

Dining Room Tour-Decorated for Christmas

From. here we’ll head into the dining room. I dressed up our Mid-century hutch this year. These popcorn hanging decorations are from my childhood. They’ve been packed away and I decided it was finally time to bring them out. I was lucky that there were two wreaths so I could hang one on each sliding glass panel.

A wooden hutch with glassware, liquor bottles, and two crocheted Christmas wreaths hanging on the top doors creates a nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating vibe. Plants and books are on and beside the hutch.

Inside of the case I put some things I love. A tiny box of Shiny Brite ornaments. The ornaments are plain but I really love the box. A sweet Christmas angel, and a few Santa mugs. I have quite the collection of those and use them all over.

A glass cabinet displays nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating touches, featuring a wreath with a candle, glassware, a ceramic angel, swan figurines, and a winter landscape painting.

On top of the hutch are my brass swan collection and a vintage oil painting. I really love them and keep them up there most of the year, just adding to them at the holidays with art and the little tree.

Two faux stained glass wreath decorations with candle designs evoke nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating, hanging on a glass cabinet filled with various glassware, with swan figurines and books on top.
Three decorative swans—gold, brass, and glittery white—are displayed on a shelf with a snowy painting, frosted tree, stacked books, and holiday decor for a touch of nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating charm.

Christmas Kitchen Tour

In the kitchen I have a fun grouping of garlands over the kitchen window. One is a strung bauble garland of ornaments of different sizes.

The other is a tulle pom pom garland and Nutcracker garland combo from my store. It’s so cute, you can find a shopping link at the end of the post.

Nostalgic and Vintage Christmas Decorating shines in paper cutouts of a ballerina, Christmas tree, and man in a top hat hanging on a festive garland with green, red, gold ornaments and pastel pom-poms above a window.

I always love adding a little Christmas to my windowsill. These little bottle brush trees, a mini-vintage Putz house and a set of snowman salt and pepper shakers create a winter time diorama that is so fun to look out over when I’m doing the dishes, especially when there is snow on the ground.

Nostalgic and Vintage Christmas Decorating comes alive in this miniature holiday village display, featuring a red house, bottle brush trees, a snowman, and a nutcracker on a windowsill overlooking wintery trees and a fence outside.

On top of our little pantry is a Vintage Santa cut out from my childhood next to some newer Santa mugs. I love how well they go together.

Three Santa Claus mugs are displayed on a light wooden surface in front of a Santa painting, capturing the charm of nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating. A potted pine plant and a lamp complete this festive scene.

I also have some mugs by our coffee station. It’s where we moved our fridge from earlier this year and it became the perfect spot for our coffee. The backdrop is a project, a felt wall banner, is from my book Creatively Christmas. It’s one of my favorite projects from the book still.

Three Santa-themed mugs, a white ceramic jar with spoons, and a canister are arranged on a wooden tray in front of festive botanical artwork—perfect touches for nostalgic and vintage Christmas decorating.
