One of my amazing clients has a very gorgeous lake house, and I’ve had the honor to be able to work with her to give it a refresh. I really love styling homes and being able to really give them a new look. I’ll be sharing more about this project as it happens as we are working on multiple areas simultaneously. One area we started with is the upper loft area. It had a lot of great things going for it, but it needed some color and a boost. It was a great space before (filled with So. Much. Light!) but the Restyled Eclectic Loft Living Area really pops now with some really inexpensive (no spend!) and easy changes.
Styling the loft from plain to personality
Previously, the loft was used as kind of a hang out and an extra sleeping area, but it really didn’t fill it’s total purpose. Plus, the homeowner had a lot of great items like original band posters that were previously in a basement area that were begging to see the light of day. It needed a firm restyling.
You can see it was nice, but just kind of ‘there’. We started by restyling the day bed and taking out some of the older pillows and replacing them with some really fun pillows made out of old concert t-shirts. The homeowner had a really fun vintage hanging light from her other home so we hung that for color in the corner over the bed to give it a pop and bring the eye up. We removed a lot of the not so fun items and added items that were a little more eclectic and casual.
Add color and interesting items to bring personality to a space
If you look at the differences, we really didn’t bring in huge changes, just enough to give it a little life. I just adore the pillows and it really didn’t take much to add some personality to the loft area. Also my theory is, stack up the pillows. Unless everything is perfectly matched together or coordinated: EMBRACE THE CHAOS DECORATING. Make it cozy, fun and eclectic.
Givethe nook a new updated and look
On the other side of the loft there is a little nook that had just enough room for a small couch and chair that the homeowner already had. We added the loveseat and decided that it would make sense and feel better to carry that fun, eclectic feel of the nostalgia of old concerts to the nook. Plus, the homeowner had some really really cool vintage posters and it was a shame to let them go to waste!
The biggest challenge was how to hang them since they were all different size and there were 3 that really worked well together.
After playing with some placement options, we went with slightly off-center and quirky.
It ended up making the wall so much more interesting than the old wood piece that was there. We’ll find another spot for that in the home. I love that it really didn’t take much and the homeowner already had all. of. the. things. to make it 85% better.
Again, we didn’t change a lot, but you can see by just making those simple, little changes it gives the nook area an entirely different vibe. I love how they add so much color to the space and make it seem so much cooler!
So what do you think? Did we make this Restyled Eclectic Loft Living Area feel less stuffy and old? I think so! I can’t wait to share some of the other spaces we’ve worked on! If you love this post with vintage decor, check out this post about the decor at Camp Wandawega.
